Jared Goff is the NFL MVP Through Six Weeks

The Detroit Lions received a ton of offseason hype coming into the season, as many expected the team to be the runaway NFC North Champions. Detroit has exceeded expectations through six weeks, and QB Jared Goff is a significant reason why. Though it may be an unpopular opinion, Goff is my pick for NFL MVP through the first six weeks of the season...

When Goff was shipped to Detroit for Matthew Stafford, many believed that the Rams overwhelmingly won the deal. Though LA has won a Super Bowl with Stafford, the trade has become one of the more equal trades in NFL history. Goff's first year in the Motor City was tough, but midway through last season, something changed. Jared started to get his mojo back and looked like the Jared Goff of old. He has continued his remarkable play this season, as Goff has the Lions sitting at 5-1 and atop the NFC North. Tua Tagovailoa and Christian McCaffrey have firm cases to be the MVP, but Jared Goff has done something this season that the NFL MVP voters love!!

The Detroit Lions have a history of losing, dating back to the 1990s. The Lions haven't won a playoff game since 1992 and have one of the lengthiest championship droughts in pro sports. To add even more context, Detroit hasn't started a season 5-1 since 2011, and that streak officially ended Sunday when Goff led the Lions to a dominant victory on the road in Tampa Bay. The NFL MVP voters love a great story, and Goff has one of the best stories in the league. Many believed that Goff would never return to form and be a Franchise QB again after the Rams threw him to the Streets of Detroit. He has defied all odds and has the Lions playing the most promising football they've played since the early 2010s. Plus, Goff's numbers are clean and MVP-like through six games. He's completing over 69% of his passes for 1,618 yards, 11 TDs, and just three picks. His passer rating and QBR are top five in the league, at 105.1 and 73.3, respectively. Jared Goff's remarkable story and splendid numbers make him the favorite to win NFL MVP.

Jared Goff isn't a very flashy name, but what he has done so far this year can't go unnoticed. Tua and CMC may have better numbers, but Goff has provided excitement and flare to an organization that hasn't had much to cheer for the past decade-plus. Jared Goff is my pick to win the NFL MVP through six weeks, and hopefully, he's yours too!!
