2024 Titans Draft Board 1.0
A new era of Titans' football is upon us, as Tennessee introduced Brian Callahan as the franchise's 20th head coach on Thursday. Though the hiring of Callahan was a savvy and excellent hire by Ran Carthon and Amy Adams Strunk, there is still a lot of work left to be done for the Titans to revitalize this inoperable roster. Let's take a look at my first official Titans' draft board and discuss what Callahan and Carthon should do with the number seven overall pick!
Olu Fashanu, OT Penn State
Olu is my top-rated offensive lineman in the 2024 class, and for good reason. Fashanu hasn't allowed a sack in two seasons and has given up one QB hit in his last 1,264 snaps. The 6'6, 320-pound OT is a superb athlete with unmatched balance. Though he is an elite pass protector, Olu needs to take some strides in the run game, as a 70.5 run-blocking PFF grade is low for a player of his caliber. All players have their weaknesses, but Olu's greatest strength happens to be the Titans' most significant need...
Joe Alt, OT Notre Dame
Alt vs. Olu is a debate many fans and draft scouts will have over the next few months. Though Olu is the superior athlete, Alt is the more refined and NFL-ready player. The Fighting Irish Left Tackle has allowed just one sack in the past two seasons and posted a 90.7 PFF Grade in 2023. Alt's 6'8, 325-pound frame swallows up defenders in the run game and makes him a matchup nightmare in pass protection (in a good way). He's not the most athletic offensive lineman, but his technique and fundamentals are fantastic. Picking between Olu and Joe was tough, but as of right now, the slight edge goes to the Penn State standout.
Malik Nabers, WR LSU
Nabers was the most explosive WR in the nation this season, forming a lethal connection with Heisman Trophy Winner Jayden Daniels. The 20-year-old hauled in 89 catches for 1,568 yards and 14 TDS in 2023, showing why he is the premier deep threat in the 2024 class. If both tackles are off the board at 7, Nabers should be the pick for Carthon and Callahan. The former four-star recruit would complement Deandre Hopkins well in the passing game and would finally add some speed to a WR corp that was ranked the third slowest...
Rome Odunze, WR Washington
The Washington standout was arguably the best WR in college football this season and flashed his NFL-level traits to the entire country in 2023. The former four-star recruit hauled in 92 catches for 1,639 yards and 13 TDs this season. Odunze's 6'3, 215-pound frame makes him a nightmare matchup against undersized corners on the outside, and his route running in the short and intermediate game is silky smooth. Though he isn't the most explosive wide receiver out there, Odunze's relentless pursuit of the football when it's in play makes him a sure-fire top-10 pick. If the three players above are off the board by seven, then Carthon should consider adding Odunze's massive catch radius to an inept offense...
Taliese Fuaga, OT Oregon State
Fuaga is my top-rated right tackle in the 2024 class, though some believe he could project more as a guard at the next level. Fuaga was rock solid in pass protection his final two collegiate seasons, allowing zero sacks and five QB hits in 2022 and 2023 combined. The former three-star recruit was no slouch in the run game either, posting a 90.5 run-blocking PFF grade in his final two seasons at Oregon State. The 335-pound offensive tackle spent most of his career on the right side of the line at Corvallis and only has a little experience playing on the left side. Fuaga was dominant in college, but Alt and Olu should be the only tackles in Tennessee's mind at pick seven.
JC Latham, OT Alabama
In his collegiate career at Alabama, Latham started 25 games at RT and posted some impressive numbers. The former five-star recruit surrendered two sacks and four QB hits in his final two seasons in Tuscaloosa and flashed his impeccable 6'6, 360-pound frame. Latham doesn't have many glaring flaws, but I would much rather have Alt, Olu, and Fuaga over him. The 20-year-old is likely the worst-case scenario at seven if we're discussing offensive tackle...
Dallas Turner, EDGE Alabama
Harold Landry had a marvelous bounce-back season for the Titans, but if they feel the need to address edge in the 1st round (highly doubt it), then Turner is your guy. The 250 LB edge racked up 11 sacks, 15.5 TFLs, and two forced fumbles in 2023 for the Crimson Tide. Turner's relentless pursuit of the quarterback and freakish athletic ability make him a bonafide top-15 pick in April...
Laiatu Latu, EDGE UCLA
Two-edge rushers cap off the draft board for the Titans, and though Turner has the slight edge over Latu, it's incredibly narrow. Latu posted 13 sacks and 21.5 TFLs for the Bruins in 2023, displaying his blazing speed and finesse off the edge. Though he is a tremendous football player, Latu's perseverance impresses me the most. The former five-star was told he would never play football again after suffering a neck injury while playing at the University of Washington. After medically retiring and missing all of the 2020 and 2021 seasons, Latu came out of retirement and immediately burst onto the scene in 2022, racking up 12 sacks.
