The NBA’s most unbreakable record is about to be broken!

It all begins with an idea.

Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 point game is widely known as one of the most unbreakable records in NBA and sports history. Chamberlain set the record on March 2nd, 1962 when his Philadelphia Warriors defeated the New York Knicks. The record was previously set by Elgin baylor in 1960 when he had 71 against ironically, the Knicks. Many believe that Wilt’s record will never be broken, and that it will stand as the league record forever. However, I believe we will see this record be broken in the next five to ten years…

We have seen some incredible scoring performances since that day in 1962, including Kobe’s 81 point game, Mitchell and Lillard’s 71 point games, Devin Booker’s 70 point game, and Klay Thompson’s 60 points in 11 dribbles. Most of those games have come in the last eight years, and there is a major reason why. The three point renaissance that we have seen over the last five years in the NBA is quite extraordinary. Most teams in the NBA are quickly adopting the threes or layup strategy that Mike D'Antoni and the Rockets adopted in the 2010s. It feels like every year there are a couple three point records being broken by multiple different players. I make this point because it is much easier to score in todays NBA than in the past, and that might be a hot take for some of you. The amount of 20 point scorers in the NBA goes up every single season. With the continued emphasis on the three ball and the increase of scoring in the NBA, Wilt’s record will be broken. Now, we take a look at the three players I believe have the best shot at doing so.

Steph Curry: The greatest shooter ever has shown that no matter how old you get, the jumpshot will always be there. We have seen Curry have some insane scoring games, including his 62 point game against the Blazers. If Curry would want to break the record, he would obviously have to do it in the next two to three years. With how deadly Curry’s three ball is, I could definitely see him do it.

Luka Dončić: Even though he entered the league just five years ago, Dončić has already established himself as one of the most talented offensive players in the history of the NBA. With Luka being just 24 years old and not even hitting the prime of his career, he has the best chance to one day break the record. His craftiness in the paint and his three ball, which can be deadly when it continuously falls, makes him one of the most gifted scorers ever.

Damian Lillard: Lillard’s incredible offensive game is usually overshadowed due to the Blazer’s lack of team success, and because a guy named Steph Curry exists. Damian’s incredible, long range shooting makes him one of the greatest shooters in the history of basketball. It was just a couple of months ago when Lillard had an incredible 71 point game, so what makes you believe that he couldn’t put up 100 one day. His deadly three ball and underrated finishing make him a top candidate to break the record.

Official Prediction: Luka Dončić will break the single game scoring record in 2026 in the Mavs last game before the 2026 All Star Weekend in Boston!!
