The Titans should approach the Jets about a potential Tannehill Trade…
The Titans should inquire about a potentially Ryan Tannehill trade..
In the wake of Aaron Rodgers’ devastating injury on Monday Night, the Jets are in need of a QB. Head Coach Robert Saleh stated to the media that Zach Wilson is the starter moving forward, but I’ve heard many NFL Coaches and GMs take back the words they have said. For this reason, Ran Carthon should call Jets GM Joe Douglas, and at least gauge the interest for Ryan Tannehill…
Many of you will probably call trading Ryan Tannehill an overreaction, but if things continue to go South for the 35-year-old, his time in Tennessee could be over by the trade deadline. Yes, the trade deadline is a long ways away, but Ran Carthon needs to pick up the phone and at least see what Tannehill could be worth in the market. Tannehill found himself in a ton of trade rumors this offseason, and the Jets were one of the teams reportedly interested in the veteran. It goes to show that many around the league believe the former Aggie has something left on the table for at least this season. Tannehill only has one year left on his contract, so it would work perfectly for the Jets as well. Though the trade could potentially happen in the coming weeks, the likelihood of it is slim, and here’s why…
Malik Willis and Will Levis haven’t shown enough for the Titans to move off Tannehill just yet. The Titans are still hoping to be playoff contenders this season, and trading Tannehill would make the team worse, as of this moment. He is still the most reliable QB option on the roster, though I believe his best days are behind him and that he can no longer execute what the Titans want to do on offense at an above-average level. Willis and Levis just haven’t shown enough for me to be convinced that they can do a better job, but that could always change. If the two young QBs had shown that they could do it, then the trade would be a match made in heaven…
Long story short, this trade is unlikely to go down, but it doesn’t hurt to gauge Tannehill’s value. There are just too many factors and move pieces to see this deal going through, but it would be a fun trade. The Jets would get a proven veteran starter for one year as Rodgers continues to rehab, and Wilson continues to develop. As for the Titans, the team would probably get worse, but we would get to see what Levis and Willis could do. The Titans getting worse part is what makes this trade very unlikely, but things could change if Tennessee finds themselves in a hole that they can’t recover from in the coming weeks….
