A deep Dive into the Titans second-half offensive Failures

The Titans' Offense has struggled to sustain drives and put points on the board all season. Tim Kelly's unit has scored under 20 points ten times this season and has looked lethargic and out of sync. Though the offense is poor overall, Tennessee's second-half offensive execution is what's losing them football games in 2023...

Whether it's Will Levis or Ryan Tannehill under center, the Titans struggle to generate any sort of offense in the second half of games. Tennessee is 27th in the NFL in second-half points per, averaging a measly 7.7 points per game in the final 30 minutes of action. To make it even worse, the Two Tone Blue are averaging 4.3 points per game in the fourth quarter, 28th in the NFL. This sporadic and incompetent second-half offense has proven detrimental for the Titans this season and has cost them countless games...

Tennessee has blown a whopping five first-half leads this season, which is an incredibly frustrating stat. Additionally, the Titans have blown seven total leads, tied for fourth most in the NFL. Four of those seven blown leads come in the final 15 minutes of games, tied for first in the NFL. Though this isn't a purely horrid offensive stat, the Titans' second-half offense deserves most of the blame for the team's struggles to keep a lead in 2023. Turnovers and the inability to sustain drives in the final two quarters cost Mike Vrabel's group a playoff spot, and there's one man who should shoulder most of the blame...

You could blame numerous people or groups of people for these second-half failures the Titans' offense has experienced. Tennessee's inability to pass protect when trailing is one route you could take on the blame highway. However, OC Tim Kelly should be held responsible for the team's struggles to sustain drives after the second-half kick. Kelly becomes too conservative with his play-calling in the second half and coaches not to lose football instead of coaching to win. The coordinator's innovation and creativity on scripted drives in the first half are remarkable, but he loses this trait when Tennessee comes out of the locker room after the halftime break. Whatever the problem is, Mike Vrabel and Co. have to find a feasible solution for second-half offensive failures in 2024, or it could prove lethal to his job security next season...
