Grading Will Levis’ Rookie Season

This afternoon, the Titans announced QB Will Levis will be OUT for the team's season finale versus the Jaguars. Levis will be Tennessee's emergency third QB, and veteran Ryan Tannehill will start. With Levis' season coming to an end, let's grade the former Kentucky Wildcat's rookie campaign...

The numbers:

8 TDs, 4 INTs

58.4 completion%

1,808 yards

84.2 passer rating, 34.1 QBR

3-6 record as the starter

Will Levis was put in a difficult and hazardous situation from the jump. The rookie signal-caller played behind one of the worst offensive lines in recent memory and had just one dependable receiving option, Deandre Hopkins. Despite this, the 24-year-old showed flashes of franchise QB potential, which should excite Titans' fans. Levis put together the greatest rookie QB debut in NFL history back in Week 8. The Ladder tossed four TD passes with zero turnovers, leading the Titans to a 28-23 win over the Falcons. The rookie also executed a magical comeback on the road against the Super Bowl-contending Miami Dolphins in Week 14 on MNF. With Tennessee down 13 points with under four minutes to go in regulation, Levis led an improbable comeback to secure the Titans a 28-27 win. Will threw for 327 yards and one TD that night and won over the national audience. Levis' final victory in his rookie season came against the lowly Carolina Panthers, where he did just enough to win the game, throwing for 185 yards and taking care of the ball in a 17-10 home victory. Though a lot of good came out of Levis' rookie season, it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows...

Though it wasn't all his fault, the Titans did lose six games with Will Levis as the QB. Many of these games were by one score, but there were a few horrendous blowouts. In these contests, Levis showed some deficiencies he must work on in the offseason. His accuracy and decision-making were off at times, and he didn't use his legs and mobility enough, especially with this treacherous offensive line. Other than that, Levis did the best he could for the poor situation he was placed in. His QB record and baseline stats could look better, but the former Wildcat kept Tennessee in games where they had no business competing with him. Mayo Man is the Titans' QB of the future, and acquiring pieces to build around him is the main task moving forward!
