Is it time for the Titans to give up on Treylon Burks?

When the Tennessee Titans drafted Arkansas WR Treylon Burks with the 18th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, they saw a player who could one day replace the production of AJ Brown. Burks' big-play ability and large stature for a 6'2 WR resembled Brown, and many expected Burks to be an adequate replacement for the former Ole Miss star. But things just haven't gone Burks' way thus far, and it may be too little too late...

After an injury-riddled rookie season, many expected Burks to take the WR1 leap for the Titans this season, even after Tennessee signed future Hall of Famer Deandre Hopkins. Through 14 weeks, Burks has looked nothing like a WR1, and his long-term future in Nashville is murky. The former Razorback continues to struggle with injuries, as he has already missed six games due to injury in 2023. Even when he's on the field, Burks' has been a non-factor on the Titans' offense. In six healthy games, Treylon has hauled in just nine catches for 123 yards and has yet to hit paydirt this season. When the Titans played the Dolphins on Monday Night last week, Burks played the second most WR snaps on the team, even out snapping the very productive Deandre Hopkins. With those 44 snaps, Treylon caught ONE pass for ONE yard. For reference, Chris Moore played 30 snaps on offense against the Dolphins, had the same number of catches, and had 21 more receiving yards than Burks...

Should the Titans give up on Treylon Burks? Yes and No. Mike Vrabel and Ran Carthon must face this reality regarding Burks: He will never be AJ Brown and will likely never develop into the receiver they hoped he would be. There is still a glimmer of hope that he can become a noteworthy contributor in Tennessee, but I wouldn't put my money on it. "Your best ability is your availability" is a quote that Hall of Fame Giants' Coach Bill Parcels always used, and it fits the Titans' situation with Burks perfectly. The former four-star WR is hardly ever available, which will factor into Carthon's future plans for the young WR. He will be on the roster in 2024, but the clock is ticking rapidly for Treylon Burks...
