Takeaways from the Lions Upset win over the CHiefs (Copy)

The Detroit Lions went into Arrowhead and defeated the defending Super Bowl Champions. Here are my reactions and takeaways from the 21-20 victory

The Lions are legit contenders

I know Kansas City didn’t have Kelce, but Detroit looked excellent on both sides of the ball tonight. Jared Goff and the offense did just enough to win the game, orchestrating long TD drives and keeping Mahomes on the sideline. The highly criticized Lions defense stepped up when it mattered most with big fourth-down stops and a momentum-shifting pick-six from Rookie Brian Branch. It’s only Week One, but it’s safe to say that we will see the Lions competing in the playoffs this season!!

Travis Kelce is the most important player on the Chiefs

This might be an outlandish take to make, but the Chiefs offense looked out of sorts and confused without Kelce. We already knew the Chiefs’ wide receivers weren’t out of this world, but tonight showed that the unit may be the worst in the entire NFL. Yes, Mahomes is probably the most important part of the Chiefs, but I’ve seen KC have offensive success when he’s not out there. I haven’t seen Kansas City having much offensive success without 87 on the field. Though it is only one game, it is concerning, to say the least…

Gibbs and MONTGOMERY Tandem

The Lions were heavily criticized when they selected Jahmyr Gibbs 12th overall in the draft. Though the selection was a reach, the tandem he formed with David Montgomery looked pretty good. They both complement each other really well, as Gibbs is the explosive playmaker who can be a threat in the passing game, while Montgomery is the downhill runner who thrives in short yardage. We have to keep in mind that Detroit was playing a Chiefs D-line without Chris Jones, but the success of their running game still can’t be overlooked. Side Note: Detroit may have the best offensive line in the entire NFL…

The Chiefs Wide Receivers Stink

You can’t expect to win when Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney are your top wide receivers. The Mahomes pick-six was terrible on all accounts, but mostly Toney because it was a clearly catchable ball right in his hands. None of the Chiefs’ wide receivers can create separation, and none can go up and make explosive plays like Tyreek Hill. None of them have the hands or route running of Juju as well. Long story short, KC is seeing what happens when you’re cheap at WR and just expect your Hall of Fame QB to bail you out. It’s only Week One, but KC struggled to find any sort of consistency in the passing game against an average secondary, imagine when they play a good secondary like the Jets or Seahawks…

Dan Campbell is the Man

Faking a punt on fourth down in your own territory during the first quarter on the road is only something Dan Campbell would do. You can tell that these players love their head coach and want to play for him based on their effort and toughness. Much like Mike Vrabel in Tennessee, the Lions play exactly like their head coach: Tough, hard, Gritty, physical. Those types of teams have given Kansas City issues over the past couple of seasons, and you saw it tonight. The Lions came into Arrowhead and smacked the defending champs right in the mouth, just like Dan Campbell likes it…

The NFL Season is back

This article is filled with overreactions and highly emotionally takes, and there’s a reason for that. THE NFL IS BACK!!!!!!
