NFL Panic Meter: Week 3 Edition

The third week of the NFL Season has concluded, and many teams are already struggling. Though it is early in the season, panic is already setting in for many fanbases across the NFL World. Let’s examine some of these teams and see if the impulsive panicking is justified… (1/10 scale)

New York Jets: 7/10, 1-2 record

The Jets roster is one of the better ones in the league, and if Aaron Rodgers were healthy, there would be no panic. Zach Wilson brings this meter to an automatic 7, and we all know why. Wilson has consistently shown that he doesn’t have what it takes to be a starting-caliber QB in this league, yet the Jets still run him out there. The former BYU standout has yet to show consistent accuracy, decision-making, and footwork in his many starts. Wilson’s mechanics are some of the worst I’ve seen from an NFL QB in a long time. New York’s inability to run the football is also less than ideal, as the tandem of Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook have struggled through three weeks. This Jet’s defense could potentially carry this team to the playoffs, but the likelihood of that happening is very slim…

Denver Broncos: 10/10, 0-3 record

Giving up 70 points in a game gets you on this list quickly and will automatically crank the meter to a ten. The Broncos wouldn’t have been too high on the meter if we were going off the first two weeks, as the team lost their first two games by a combined score of 3. But after last week, they must be on here and cranked up to 10. The defense is pretty bad, as Pat Surtain and Justin Simmons are the only things holding it together. Russell Wilson has looked a little better from last year, but the Sean Payton effect hasn’t set in yet. Denver hasn’t been able to establish the run game, making their offense incredibly predictable and conservative. Blowing a 21-3 lead to the Commanders at home isn’t ideal either. Though some may have a little belief in Denver, I don’t see them making the playoffs, especially in the AFC…

CINCINNATI Bengals: 4/10, 1-2 record

Cincy was finally able to erase the zero off their record, picking up a gutsy Monday Night Football win over the Rams. Though they won the game, Joe Burrow and the Bengals still didn’t look like the team we are accustomed to seeing. Cincinnati’s offense was inconsistent the entire game, putting together some impressive drives and then having quick three-and-outs here and there. The defense stepped up huge for them on Monday, creating key turnovers and getting stops when needed. Though some are still worried, I believe the Bengals are on the rise. If Joe Burrow can get his calf healthy and the defense continues to shine, it’s only a matter of time until the offense explodes. I have little worries about the Bengals moving forward, and they will be a tough out for anyone come January…

Tennessee Titans: 7/10, 1-2 record

The Titans’ loss to the Browns was one of the most embarrassing losses in franchise history, as the team’s offense put up a putrid 94 net yards of offense. Though he hasn’t been perfect to start the season, Ryan Tannehill has no chance of getting anything done behind this terrible offensive line. Andre Dillard is statistically the worst Left Tackle in the NFL right now, as he has already given up six sacks in three games. Aaron Brewer and the rest of the O-Line have tried to cover up for Dillard and the absence of first-round rookie Peter Skoronski, but it hasn’t worked. Tennessee’s defense has been decent to start the season, though the secondary has been ripped to shreds thus far. Kristian Fulton is not good enough to be a number-one corner in the NFL, which is a harsh realization as he is in his contract year. Tennessee has many problems right now, but the fact that they can’t get Derrick Henry going may be the biggest. I know the offensive line is poor, but I’ve never seen the Titans have no answer for a team straight-up bullying their Hall of Fame back. The rest of Tennessee’s issues are problematic and contribute to this seven rating on the meter, but their best player being a nonfactor is an even bigger problem you must figure out before it’s too late…

Minnesota Vikings: 7/10, 0-3 record

The Vikings are by far the best 0-3 team in the league, but being winless through three weeks puts you high on the meter as your playoff chances drop tremendously. Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson have picked up where they’ve left off, but unfortunately, so has the Minnesota Defense! Many expected the Vikings’ Defense to be much improved with the additions of Byron Murphy and Brian Flores, but the exact opposite has happened. Though they have improved slightly from 2022, this Minnesota Defense is still one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL, as they just gave up a 400-yard game to Justin Herbert. The run defense isn’t much better either, as Deandre Swift ran rampant against them. Though the Vikings’ Defense has been awful, the One-Dimensional Offense doesn’t get a pass either. Kirk Cousins and the passing game will always be there, but Minnesota’s inability to run the football is killing them. Coming back from an 0-3 hole is tough, but it’s even tougher when you are utterly awful in some of the most important aspects of football…

Chicago Bears: 10/10, 0-3 record

Do I really have to explain this one? The Chicago Bears stink at football; what’s new? The Bears are so bad that they were booed off the field by their fans at an away game. Even after all that offseason hype, Justin Fields doesn’t look like the guy. Why trade for D.J. Moore if you won’t throw him the ball? The Bears have had a lot of bad coaches, but Matt Eberflus may be the worst of them all. The defense side of the ball is supposed to be his specialty, but the Bears still have one of the worst defenses in the NFL. There’s not much more I need to say about the Bears. They are by far the worst team in the NFL, and their playoff chances are zero!!

Jacksonville Jags: 4/10, 1-2 record

The last two weeks have been rough for Jacksonville, as they have lost two straight, and the offense has looked lackluster. Though many are panicking in Duval, the Jaguars will be perfectly fine. We’ve seen Trevor Lawrence start slow and get it going as the season progresses. There are a lot of new moving pieces for this team on both sides of the ball, and it will take some time for everybody to mesh. It also helps that they are playing in arguably the worst division in football. They may be 1-2 now, but the Jags should easily have the AFC South locked up by the middle of December…
